Let's be honest, most of us are not good at loving ourselves, even saying it out loud sounds a bit icky. SO when I ask you, "what does loving yourself look like"? I am very often met with polite smiles and silence.
What I suggest, teach and coach is that we should love ourselves every bit as much as we love a close friend.
That sounds impossible? Indulgent? Like a waste of time?
You are worried your family and friends would think you had lost the plot?
The way I teach self-care is simple, easy to follow, intuitive and practical.
And if you are reading this it must mean you are at least mildly interested in the subject of self-care. Self-care means different things to many people but I will tell you want it looks like to ME.
TAKING TIME TO REST, RECHARGE, CREATE & JUST BE ME.
FORGIVING MYSELF FOR MY MISTAKES.
SETTING & MAINTAINING HEALTHY BOUNDARIES.
SAYING "NO" TO OTHERS AND "YES" TO MYSELF.
MINDFUL OBSERVANCE OF MY THOUGHTS.
KEEPING PROMISES I HAVE MADE TO MYSELF.
NOT ALLOWING SOMEONE TO DISTURB THE INNER PEACE I HAVE CULTIVATED.
BEING OK WITH THE FACT THAT I HAVE FLAWS.
EMBRACING MY LIVED EXPERIENCE WITH LOVING-KINDNESS.
ACCEPTING THAT I HAVE AS MUCH RIGHT TO HAPPINESS, CALM AND PEACE AS ANYONE ELSE.
FOLLOWING MY INTUITION, I AM THE EXPERT ABOUT MYSELF.
WRITING MYSELF A "YOU GOT THIS", LETTER WHEN I AM FEELING PANICKY, LONELY AND UNSURE.
HAVING A LIST OF GO-TO SELF CARE ROUTINES & IDEAS THAT WORK FOR ME.
ACCEPT THAT I AM 100% RESPONSIBLE FOR MY OWN HAPPINESS.
This is the basic list of ways I care for myself and the list I work with when I teach and coach clients to better care for themselves.
Without self-care we are more likely to suffer from:
DISSATISFACTION WITH LIFE
ADDICTIVE BEHAVIOURS, ALCOHOLISM, DRUG DEPENDENCY.
HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
